OverCast

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-29.

What OverCast collects, why, who else sees it, and how long it is kept. In plain words, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody.

1. Who is responsible

OverCast is operated by Ron Major, in Alberta, Canada. For anything in this policy — including a request to see or remove your information — write to OverCast-Team@pm.me.

You must be 18 or older to use OverCast. The service is not intended for children, and accounts are not knowingly created for anyone under 18.

2. What you give us

To sign in: an email address and a password, or an Apple ID if you use Sign in with Apple. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. Apple may give us a relay address rather than your real one — that is your choice, and it works fine.

To play: a display name, and optionally a bio and a profile picture. Your picks, your pool memberships, and anything you type in chat.

If you subscribe: billing is handled entirely by Stripe on the website, or by Apple if you subscribe in the iOS app. Card details never reach OverCast — we store only a reference from whichever of them bills you, so we know your subscription is active and where to send you to manage it.

3. What we record as you play

Your scores, badges and title reigns — that is the game. Your settings: who can see your profile, your chat filter, your name colour, and whether you want show-night email.

If you use the iOS app: a push token, but only if you allow notifications; and a device attestation key, which is how the app proves a write really came from the app and not from someone poking at our servers. That key is a public key and a counter. It is not an advertising identifier and cannot be used to track you anywhere else.

When something breaks: the error message, where it happened and your browser or device type, so it can be fixed. This is stored on our own systems — OverCast does not use a third-party crash or analytics monitor for this.

4. Who else sees it

These are service providers doing a specific job. OverCast does not sell your personal information, and does not share it for advertising.

  • Supabase — our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions. Everything above lives here.
  • Vercel — hosts the website, and measures page performance so we can keep it fast.
  • Apple — delivers push notifications to your device, and verifies the app is genuine.
  • Giphy — searching for a GIF in chat sends your search words to Giphy. Nothing identifying you is sent with them.
  • Resend — sends our email.
  • Stripe — handles payments if you subscribe on the website.
  • Apple — handles payments if you subscribe in the iOS app.

5. What other players see

Your display name, picture and results appear on leaderboards and in the pools you join. Your picks for a show stay hidden from everyone else until that show locks — then they are visible, which is rather the point of a prediction game.

You control who can open your profile: everyone, subscribers only, or only people in your pools. Change it any time in your profile settings.

6. How long it is kept

Chat is temporary on purpose.A show’s chat room, everything said in it and the key that encrypts it are destroyed 24 hours after the room closes. The key is destroyed first, so even a backup taken in between holds nothing readable.

Results are keptfor as long as the game exists. Leaderboards, title reigns and lineages are a shared history — removing one player’s results would change everyone else’s finished standings.

Everything else lasts as long as your account.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time, from the website or from the iOS app. When you do:

  • Your sign-in, name, bio, profile picture and chat messages are removed, and you cannot log in again.
  • Your results stay— picks, scores, badges and title reigns. On those past leaderboards you appear as “Vacant”.
  • Your subscriber access ends immediately. Deleting on the website also cancels a Stripe payment. A subscription bought in the iOS app is billed by Apple, and only you can stop it — no website, and no amount of asking us, can cancel an App Store subscription. The app shows you the button that does. Deleting in the app ends access either way, and tells you which of the two applies to you.

We keep the results because they are not only yours: deleting them would silently re-rank finished shows for everyone who played alongside you. If you would prefer your results removed as well, write to OverCast-Team@pm.me and we will talk it through.

8. Your rights

Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA, and Alberta’s PIPA) gives you the right to ask what we hold about you, to have mistakes corrected, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the UK, the EU or California you have comparable rights, and we will honour a request from anywhere rather than argue about where you live.

Most of it you can do yourself in your profile settings. For anything else, email OverCast-Team@pm.me.

9. Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and we will say so in the app or on the site. Continuing to use OverCast after that means you accept the new version.
